Introduction

Helmsley is a village near the North Yorkshire Moors. With only 1500 inhabitants, we wondered whether the inhabitants make use of the services in their hometown, or whether they travel to nearby towns to get what they need.

Objectives of this scenario

  • to show how mobile devices are used for educational purposes outdoors
  • to show how surveys can be implemented in mobile learning

Description of the learning scenario

​In this scenario you will see students interviewing Helmley's inhabitants. They use their mobile devices to record their answers and to complete a survey.

Impact of the learning scenario on students

  • The students will learn how to record the inhabitant's answers 
  • The students will learn how to interview the people
  • The students will learn how to compare the differences and similarities.

How could this scenario be extended?

  • Class discussion on how Helmsley can be made more attractive for its inhabitants - and what, "more attractive" means,
  • Create a presentation on the data with an appropriate app e.g. Keynote, Simple mind, Tellagami, Videoscribe)
  • Create an archive of views of the town from the interviews carried out, 
  • Develop a plan for the sustainable development of the town.
